Step 1: Sign out of Apple-ID & disable “Find My Mac”
- Open System Settings
- Click your name at the top (Apple ID section)
- Go to iCloud
- Scroll down and click “Show All”
- Click on “Find My Mac” and disable it
- Enter your Apple ID password to confirm
- Back in Apple ID section: click “Sign Out”
Step 2: Factory Reset the Mac
- Shut down the Mac
- Hold the Power button until “Options” appears
- Choose “Options” > “Continue”
- From the menu, open Disk Utility
- Select the main drive (e.g. Macintosh HD) > Erase
- Format: APFS
- Close Disk Utility
- Choose Reinstall macOS
- Follow the prompts to wipe & reinstall the system
Note: If the Apple ID is not removed, the Activation Lock will remain active.
This means the Mac cannot be fully used or set up by a new owner.
